The BIG EAST men’s soccer championship kicks off today with three first-round games. Providence, the No. 5 seed in the Blue Division, travels to Villanova, the No. 4 seed in the Red Division (1 p.m.). DePaul, No. 5 seed in the Red Division, plays at Georgetown, No. 4 seed in the Blue Division (2 p.m.), while Rutgers, No. 6 in the Red Division, takes on West Virginia, No. 3 in the Blue Division (7 p.m.).

Providence’s Tim Ritter made a clean sweep of the national weekly soccer awards this morning. After grabbing BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, Ritter has since been named the NSCAA National Men’s Player of the Week, the ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and the Soccer America National Men’s Player of the Week.

In BIG EAST volleyball news, Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU) selected Cincinnati junior setter Annie Fesl and Notre Dame sophomore outside hitter Kristen Dealy as two of the top 10 performers of week 10. Fesl, this week’s BIG EAST Player of the Week, led the Bearcats to three wins including conference victories over Marquette and Syracuse. Dealy helped keep the Irish undefeated in conference play (10-0) with wins against Seton Hall and Rutgers.
