PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville junior Sara-Maude Juneau and St. John's senior Mike Ballo Jr. have been named the BIG EAST Golfers of the Month for October. Juneau set a personal collegiate low for a tournament score while winning the individual title at the Tar Heel Invitational, while Ballo recorded two top-10 placements which helped the Red Storm to three straight top-10 finishes.
Juneau's personal best came as she shot a 10-under 206 at the UNC Finley Golf Course in a field that included 15 of the top 18 teams ranked by Golfstat.com. Her total score ranks second in the Louisville record books for lowest tournament score. At the Mercedes Benz Women's Championship, Juneau turned in another top-five finish with an even-par 216.
The junior capped her impressive month at the Boulder Creek Golf Club where she tied another career best with a Round 2 score of 67 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Juneau finished second overall with a five-under 211. She finished the fall season leading the Cardinals with a 71.1 scoring average.
With two top-10 finishes in October, Ballo wrapped up his fall season with three top-15 showings in his five tournaments, two of which came this past month. St. John's started October with a fifth-place finish at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. Ballo led the Red Storm as he tied for eighth overall with a five-over 218.
The senior turned in his best performance of the fall season with a runner-up showing at the Philadelphia Big 5 Tournament. Ballo carded a five-over 218 to help STJ into a tie for eighth place. St. John's also competed at the rain-shortened Georgetown Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20. Ballo finished with a nine-over 151, tied for 28th overall, as St. John's tallied its third top-10 placement of the month.
