THE GAME
Friday’s game will be the 30th meeting between Connecticut and Rutgers in a series that dates to 1940 … Rutgers holds a 20-9 series lead and has won four of the six BIG EAST meetings … Last year’s game saw Rutgers take a 28-24 win in East Hartford, Conn., on an 81-yard touchdown reception by WR Tim Brown with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter … Brown’s TD came just 16 seconds after Connecticut had taken a 24-21 lead on a touchdown run by RB Jordan Todman.

Connecticut has strung together back-to-back wins after the Huskies pulled away from a 21-21 halftime tie to beat Vanderbilt 40-21 … The Huskies scored the last 26 points against the Commodores just one week after they scored the last 21 points against Buffalo … Connecticut scored 40, 45 and 62 points in its three wins and 10 and 16 points in the two losses … The Huskies lead the BIG EAST in scoring offense (34.6 ppg) and rushing offense (209.4 ypg) … Connecticut has outscored its last two opponents in the second half by a 50-7 margin … RB Jordan Todman is averaging 159.5 yards per game, good for second in the BIG EAST and fourth nationally … Todman has rushed for 638 yards and seven touchdowns on 98 carries … QB Cody Endres made his first start of the season against Vanderbilt … Endres has seen action in two games and has completed 28 of 41 passes for 318 yards and four touchdowns with one interception … WR Michael Smith has 20 catches for 373 yards and two touchdowns … LB Lawrence Wilson leads the team with 48 tackles … DE Jesse Joseph has 4.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.

Rutgers began the season with wins against Norfolk State and Florida International, but the Scarlet Knights have dropped their last two, falling to North Carolina and Tulane … Rutgers is ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense (12.0 ppg) and seventh nationally in rushing defense (80.0 ypg), leading the BIG EAST in both categories … Rutgers has allowed just three points in the fourth quarter … WR Mohamed Sanu leads the Scarlet Knights in both receiving yards (58.5 ypg) and rushing yards (56.2 ypg) … Sanu has rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns and has 21 receptions for 234 yards and two TDs … QB Tom Savage has completed 51.5 percent of his passes (35 of 68) for 399 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions … Savage did not finish last week’s game against Tulane after suffering an injury in the second quarter … QB Chas Dodd, who finished the game against Tulane, has gone 14-for-32 for 182 yards and one touchdown and one interception … The defense is led by LB Antonio Lowery, who has a team-high 22 tackles with two fumble recoveries … S Joe Lefeged has 28 stops to go with three pass breakups, an interception, two forced fumbles and two blocked punts.
