Louisville and Memphis meet for the 42nd time in a series that dates to 1948 … The Cardinals hold a 22-19 series lead and have won six of the last seven … The last game was Oct. 10, 2008, when Louisville took a 35-28 win in Memphis … Louisville got two touchdown passes from QB Hunter Cantwell in that game and also scored on a kickoff return, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal return … Both head coaches were members of BCS National Championship coaching staffs before taking their current positions — Louisville’s Charlie Strong won two BCS titles as defensive coordinator at Florida, while Memphis’ Larry Porter coached the LSU running backs on the 2007 national championship team.

Louisville turned in its best offensive performance of the season in last week’s 34-24 win at Arkansas State as the Cardinals built a 31-7 halftime lead and finished the game with 575 rushing yards … The win snapped a 10-game losing streak in road games for the Cardinals … The gaudy numbers moved the Cardinals atop the BIG EAST leaderboard in total offense (433.2 yards per game) … QB Adam Froman enters Saturday’s game as the BIG EAST’s individual leader in total offense at 251.8 yards per game … Froman is second in the conference in passing (235.5 ypg) … Froman has completed 71 of 123 passes for 942 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions … RB Bilal Powell is third in the BIG EAST in rushing (121.2 ypg), with 485 yards and five TDs on 73 carries … RB Victor Anderson, the 2008 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, has rushed for 222 yards … DT Rodney Gnat has a BIG EAST-leading 5.5 sacks, while CB Darius Ashley has a team-high two interceptions … Louisville has scored 64 points in the second quarter and 37 in the other three quarters combined.

Memphis has dropped back-to-back games for the second time in 2010 following a 48-7 loss to Tulsa last Saturday … The Tigers opened the season with losses on the road against Mississippi State (49-7) and East Carolina (49-27) … Memphis was a 24-17 winner against Middle Tennessee State, but fell to Texas-El Paso 16-13 prior to the loss to Tulsa … Memphis has been outscored by a combined 101 points in its five games … The Tigers have lost nine straight road games, with the last win away from home coming against Southern Methodist in 2008 … The Tigers rank 110th nationally in total offense (286.4 yards per game) and scoring defense (35.8 ppg) and 113rd in scoring offense (15.6 ppg) … The Tigers start a true freshman behind center in QB Ryan Williams … Williams has thrown for 715 yards and five touchdowns with five interceptions … RB Jerrell Rhodes (283 yards, 1 TD) and RB Gregory Ray (269 yards, 2 TDs) have split the carries … DE Dasmine Cathey has a team-high three sacks and five tackles for loss.
