DePaul and Georgetown Earn BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In a weekend filled with great individual and team performances across the BIG EAST cross country scene, two individuals stood out for their outstanding efforts. DePaul junior Matthew Graham claimed his second BIG EAST male cross country Athlete of the Week honor of the season for his showing at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. On the women’s side, Georgetown junior Emily Infeld was named BIG EAST female cross country Athlete of the Week after earning first at the Paul Short Run.
 
Graham earns male cross country Athlete of the Week honors after taking first at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 2. Graham won the 8k race in dominant fashion, outpacing his competition by 21 seconds in difficult weather conditions. Graham finished with a time of 24:32 on a cold, windy and rainy day, taking his third first-place finish in four races this season. The Blue Demons finished ninth of 41 teams in the field, with Graham beating out 528 other competitors.
 
Infeld notches female cross country Athlete of the Week after winning at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 2. The junior navigated the difficult 6k course in 20:04, beating out her closest competition by six seconds. The University Heights, Ohio, native helped the Hoyas to a first-place team finish, ahead of 40 other squads including topping then-No. 16 Virginia by 34 points.
 
The BIG EAST Championship will be held on Oct. 30 at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville, N.Y., hosted by Syracuse University.
