St John's Earns Final Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Redshirt-freshman Rafael Diaz was named BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, while teammate Kyle Hoffer, a senior back, earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors. Junior forward Colin Rolfe takes home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, while freshman midfielder Ray De Leon from DePaul was tabbed as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Hoffer helped to anchor a defensive until that allowed just six shots on goal in a 2-0-0 week. Hoffer led a defense that limited Villanova to four shots on goal before holding No. 24/NR USF to just two shots on goal. He tallied his first goal of the season in the win against USF. Diaz posted two shutouts in a 2-0-0 week for the Red Storm. He has six-straight clean sheets. After making three saves against Villanova to help St. John’s with a 1-0 win on Oct. 27, he made a pair of saves against No. 24/NR USF for a 2-0 victory. Diaz extended his scoreless streak to 614:55 as the Red Storm secured a third-place seed in the BIG EAST Championship. Rolfe notched six points, including two game-winners, last week as the Cardinals wrapped up their undefeated season. He scored the game-winning goal against Syracuse in a 2-1 victory and followed it with a game-winner against Villanova in a 3-1 win. Rolfe added an insurance goal against the Wildcats. De Leon scored the first two goals of his career in the final two games of the regular season. He scored the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw against Cincinnati on Oct. 28. He followed that with the insurance goal in a 2-0 victory against Rutgers that clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Championship for the Blue Demons.
