PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louisville sophomores Aileen Cole and Pedro Oliveira turned in impressive performances last week and were named the BIG EAST Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week and the BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Cole posted four individual wins to go along with a pair of relay victories last week. In the Louisville’s 186-105 win over West Virginia Nov. 5, she took first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles with times of 50.58 seconds and 3:52.49, respectively. Both of her freestyles rank as the top times in the BIG EAST. The sophomore also swam the lead leg of the winning 200 free relay. Cole won the 50 free in 23.40 and the 100 free in 51.11 as the Cardinals defeated Pittsburgh 190-109 Nov. 6. She also anchored the winning 200 medley relay.
Oliveira recorded four individual first-place finishes, two individual second-place finishes and assisted in one winning relay last week. In UofL’s 183-112 win against West Virginia Nov. 5, he won the 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly in 1:48.94 and 50.43, respectively. The sophomore posted a second-place finish in the 100 back, finishing in 51.66. Oliveira won the 200 fly with 1:48.39 and the 200 back with 1:47.39 as the Cards downed Pitt 177-123 Nov. 6. He also took second in the 100 fly at 50.69, while swimming the fly leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
