PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Swimming & Diving season is well underway with teams racking up impressive accomplishments over the last few weeks.
Cincinnati – The Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Purdue Nov. 19-21 for the three-day Purdue Invitational. The women finished seventh out of eight teams, collecting 155 points, while the men finished sixth out of seven squads with 144 points. Both teams compete again Dec. 2 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
Connecticut - The Connecticut men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the Terrapin Cup Nov. 18-20 at Maryland. The men finished second of eight behind Maryland, while the women were third of eight behind Maryland and Villanova. The men are back in action Dec. 4 hosting Harvard at 2 p.m. Both teams will host Seton Hall Jan. 22 at 1 p.m.
Georgetown – The Georgetown swimming and diving teams participated in the Patriot Invitational Nov. 19-21 in Fairfax, Va. The men finished fifth, collecting 382 points, while the women claimed fourth place with 417 points. The Hoyas compete again Dec. 3 at the Galbraith Diving Invitational in New Brunswick, N.J.
Louisville – The Cardinal men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams traveled to the Purdue Invitational Nov. 19-21. The women finished second out of eight teams, while the men finished third out of eight. The Cardinals are back in action Dec. 2-4 traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the USA Short Course Nationals.
Notre Dame – The Notre Dame swimming and diving teams took a break last week. In ND’s last outing the women’s team beat Utah 188.5-112.5 Nov. 12, while the men defeated Utah 184-116. The men’s team and the women’s diving team are back in action Dec. 3-5 at the Iowa Invitational, while the women’s swimming team competes at the U.S. Nationals in Columbus, Ohio Dec. 2-4.
Pittsburgh – Pitt traveled to Rutgers for the three-day Super Splash Invitational Nov. 19-21. The women’s squad took home first place collecting 1,576.5 points, while the men finished fourth with 1,340 points. The Panthers are back in action Jan. 8, hosting West Virginia at 11 a.m.
Providence - The Providence women’s swimming and diving team hosted Rhode Island Nov. 17 for Pink Out the Pool, with all proceeds benefiting the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resources Foundation. The Friar women lost 150-125, falling to a 0-7 mark for the season. Both teams are back in action Dec. 3, traveling to Kingston, R.I. for the Harold Anderson Invitational.
Rutgers - The Rutgers swimming and diving team hosted the Frank Elm Invite Nov. 19-21. RU finished third of 15 teams, totaling 1,026 points over the three day event. The Scarlet Knights are back in action Dec. 3 with Wagner visiting at 4 p.m.
Seton Hall – The Pirates participated in the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va. Nov. 19-21. The men’s team finished fourth with 474.5 points, while the women were fifth collecting 354 points. Both teams compete again Dec. 2 at the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals.
Syracuse – The Orange traveled to the Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nov. 18-20. Both teams compete again Dec. 2-4 at the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
Villanova – The Wildcats traveled to Maryland Nov. 18-21 for the Terrapin Cup. The men finished fourth of seven teams, while the women were second of eight. Both teams are back in action Dec. 2-4 at the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
West Virginia - The Mountaineer women finished fifth at the Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nov. 18-20, while the men finished fifth. Both teams compete again Dec. 31, traveling to UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m.
