The BIG EAST Conference has named Connecticut guard Kemba Walker and DePaul forward Cleveland Melvin the winners of the conference's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Jan. 16.
Walker captures BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 24.5 points in a 2-0 week for the Huskies. On Saturday, he scored 22 of his 31 points in the first half of an 82-62 win at DePaul. Earlier in the week, the native of the Bronx, N.Y., scored 18 points in a 67-53 victory over Rutgers. Walker ranks second in the nation in scoring at 25.6 ppg. He has led the Huskies in scoring in every game this season. Walker also leads the BIG EAST in steals with a 2.3 average.
Melvin averaged 23.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games for the Blue Demons to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the third time. He had 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a 78-67 loss to Seton Hall and had his first career double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds in an 82-62 loss to Connecticut.

Rick Jackson, Syracuse, F, Sr.
Averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals while shooting 92.9 percent from the field (13-of-14) in a 2-0 week.
John Flowers, West Virginia, F, Sr.
Averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had careerhigh 24 points with six rebounds, five blocks and three steals in a 93-62 win against Providence.
