Post-Game Notes: West Virginia vs. Cincinnati

  • West Virginia opened tonight’s contest with a 6-0 run during the first 1:35 of play before extending their lead to nine at 17-8 with a 10-4 run.

  • Cincinnati cut the WVU lead to three at 20-17 with a 7-0 run midway through the frame.

  • West Virginia went into the half-time break with a 14-point lead at 37-23.

  • Both teams did not record a field goal for the first 4:32 of the second half as WVU shot 0-of-6 from the floor, while Cincinnati was 0-of-3. WVU’s Asya Bussie connected on a layup at the 15:28 mark of the frame to net the only field goal for either team in the first 6:11 of the half.

  • Cincinnati did not score in the second half until the 13:20 mark as Tiffany Turner hit a jumper to cut the WVU lead to 16. The Bearcats hit just one field goal in the first 12 minutes of the frame.

  • WVU’s 25-point win tied the largest margin of victory for the Mountaineers in a BIG EAST Championship contest. Prior to tonight’s game, WVU had defeated St. John’s by 25 points with an 84-59 victory in 2004.

  • Sarah Miles’ 10 assists tied her career-high tally in that category (last doing so at USF on 2/20/10).
 
  • WVU’s largest lead was 27 points with 20 seconds left in regulation.
 
  • Cincinnati was held without a field goal for the final 6:28 of the contest.

  • WVU improves to 7-5 all-time in BIG EAST Championship first round appearances, while the Mountaineers move to 11-9 all-time in championship play.

  • Cincinnati falls to 2-5 in BIG EAST Championship action since joining the conference for the 2005-06 season.
