Post-Game Quotes: Villanova vs. Providence

Villanova Postgame Quotes
No. 11 Providence vs. No. 14 Villanova
Game 4– First Round, March 4, 2011
XL Center – Hartford, Conn.

Head Coach Harry Perretta
Opening Statement:
“We hung in there and kept trying to play the game. We got off to another bad start, like we always do 90 percent of the time. I kept telling the kids in the timeouts that all we can do is keep trying to execute our offense and keep taking open shots and eventually, hopefully they’ll go in. Now, they didn’t for a long time in the game, but they did when we needed them to towards the end of the game. I thought our defense got better as the game went on, but I also thought it was one of those things where Providence had the lead most of the game, so they were getting a little tentative towards the end. It’s one of those things where sometimes when you don’t have the lead and you’re coming back, the pressure is on the team that has the lead. It was kind of a goofy game that way. I thought we executed our defense half-decent, thought we got good shots and it was a question of making them. We made just enough to win.”

Sophomore Forward Laura Sweeney
It seemed like there was a span there where you couldn’t miss and then they shut you off for a little bit there, what did they do differently?
“Defensively for them, I think that they were starting to double a little bit more, so it was harder to get open. I was getting fronted. At the same time, that may help us because I will hopefully have a good pass to find our guards out on the perimeter.”
