Louisville Postgame Quotes
No. 6 Louisville vs. No. 14 Villanova
Game 8 – Second Round, March 5, 2011
XL Center – Hartford, Conn.
Head Coach Jeff Walz
Opening Statement:
“We are thrilled to get our (second) round win and have an opportunity to face a great Notre Dame team tomorrow night. It is a relief to get a win, after the way we played at Providence Monday night. We still have some things to work on to try to get prepared for tomorrow, but it is always nice to win, especially when you can get your 20th win of the season.”
Where do you think you guys stand right now from where you thought you could be from this point?
“I think we are about exactly where I thought we would be. Take away a few wins that we got, that I was not sure we would get and then I think we have lost a few games that I didn’t plan on us to lose. And when you break it down, we are probably a game away from when I did my pre-season, when I looked at my schedule and I put win loss, win loss, win loss. We are about a game off of that. We have done a nice job, but we still have room to go. I am pleased with things now, but we are still not satisfied with where we are.”
Freshman Guard Shoni Schimmel
Do you think it may have taken you all too long to get going and once the offense started clicking, how did it feel at that point?
“Just for us to go out there and hit some shots, we were told before the game not to hang our heads. We just kept shooting the ball and that is exactly what we did. And it kept working for us.”
Junior Forward Monique Reid
What is it going to take for you to knock off Notre Dame and advance further into the tournament?
“Score more points than the other team, obviously; just working hard. They are a hard working team. We just have to play harder than them. We had a struggle at the beginning of the year against them. I feel like if we come out and play hard, we will come out on top.”
Villanova Postgame Quotes
No. 6 Louisville vs. No. 14 Villanova
Game 8 – Second Round, March 5, 2011
XL Center – Hartford, Conn.
Head Coach Harry Perretta
Opening Statement:
“I just think that in the beginning they came out and pressed us, which we knew they would and we were hoping that we could put up some 3’s early in the game to try to get them out of it and we didn’t. That’s how the game went from that point on.”
Junior Forward Lindsay Kimmel
Could you address the press on how it was going up against Louisville in an up-tempo game like this?
“We knew that they were going to come out and press us like they did and we practice this. But I guess we just didn’t do what we had to do.”
Coach, can you reiterate on my question to Lindsay (Kimmel)?
“Ithought we played well the first game and we have gotten a little better toward the end of the year, but we have trouble against certain kinds of teams. These teams overwhelm us with their athleticism and talent. They disrupt our offense and they don’t really give us a chance to execute. Because they press us the entire game, we don’t get good shots off. We started the second half good, we made three 3’s in a row, but they stopped us. The bottom line is against teams like that you have to make shots early.”
