PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rutgers rowing team’s varsity eight took first at the Murphy Cup Regatta at the Schuykill River in Philadelphia, Pa., to earn BIG EAST Boat of the Week honors.
The crew of Katie Quinn, Katherine Geithman, Janine Ford, Helen Becz, Raelyn Loiselle, Stephanie Ford, Mary Gromlowicz, Kathleen Lai, and Christine Hannigan won their heat with a time of 6:26.66 to move into the finals. The Scarlet Knights then defeated crews from St. Joseph’s, Navy, Drexel, Bucknell and Fordham with a time of 6:38.3 to win the Murphy Cup. Rutgers established a lead by the 1,000-meter mark and went on to beat St. Joseph’s by a seat of open water (2.8 seconds).
The next BIG EAST Boat of the Week award will be announced on April 6.
