With Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette, Villanova and Notre Dame all securing spots in the BIG EAST Championship last weekend, three slots will be filled in the final weekend of regular season play. Seven teams (Syracuse, Georgetown, Seton Hall, USF, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Connecticut) will be trying to secure a trip to Milwaukee, Wis., for the championship next weekend. Georgetown (14-11, 6-6 BIG EAST) hosts Cincinnati (20-8, 10-2 BIG EAST) on Friday at 8 p.m. followed by Louisville (19-7, 11-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday at 2 p.m. USF (10-15, 6-6 BIG EAST) is on the road for two matches this weekend against West Virginia (7-17,5-8 BIG EAST) on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Pittsburgh (16-12,6-7 BIG EAST) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Four BIG EAST women’s soccer teams begin their run in the NCAA Championship this weekend, with three teams in action on Saturday (West Virginia, Marquette and Louisville) while one (Notre Dame) kicks off play on Sunday. All three contests on Saturday are home games for the league teams. No. 10/9 West Virginia hosts Virginia Tech, while Louisville hosts Dayton and No. 12/19 Marquette welcomes Toledo. On Sunday, Notre Dame heads to No. 16/13 Illinois.
Over the past two years, the BIG EAST has gone 9-2-2 in the First Round of the NCAA Championship for a .769 winning percentage.
The semifinal field has been set for the 2011 BIG EAST men’s soccer championship, which will be held at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. for the second-straight year. In a matchup at 5 p.m. on Nov. 11, Louisville will play Connecticut. In the second match of the day, Villanova will face off against St. John’s. The final is scheduled for Nov. 13 at noon. All three games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
