Providence College had the league’s only men’s basketball win last night with an 80-49 victory over Brown.
Guard Vincent Council led the Friars with 21 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. PC was able to take control of the game early, building a 15-2 lead. Guard Bryce Cotton registered 19 points while forward LaDontae Henton added 19 points and nine rebounds.
Forward Moe Harkless posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds but its wasn’t enough as St. John’s fell to Detroit 69-63. The Titans played off the energy created by the school unveiling Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall before the game. Guard D’Angelo Harrison provided 15 points for the Red Storm as forward Sir’Dominic Pointer had 10 points and eight rebounds.
DePaul lost to Milwaukee 87-76. Guard Cleveland Melvin scored 27 points for the Blue Demons and topped 500 points in his two-year career. Guard Brandon Young added 20 for DePaul, which shot 32-64 (50 percent) from the field.
Five BIG EAST teams are in action tonight. Villanova faces Missouri at 7 p.m. in Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V Classic. That game will be followed by Marquette vs. Washington at 9 p.m., also part of the Jimmy V Classic at MSG. Syracuse hosts Marshall at 7 p.m. Pittsburgh takes on VMI while Seton Hall hosts NJIT. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
