BIG EAST teams went 4-0 on Tuesday, with Syracuse and Louisville remaining unbeaten.
Syracuse defeated Bucknell 80-61 behind a 17-point effort from forward Kris Joseph. Guard Scoop Jardine added 14 points and four assists while forward Rakeem Christmas added 10 points and five rebounds. The Orange host Tulane at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Five players scored in double figures as Louisville topped College of Charleston 69-62. Forward Kyle Kuric hit a go-ahead jumper in the paint with 3:12 to play, giving Louisville a 60-59 lead. It was the start of an 8-0 run over a 70-second span that helped the Cardinals remain unbeaten. Kuric finished with 17 points while forward Gorgui Dieng added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cardinals. Louisville hosts Western Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m. as part of the Billy Minardi Classic.
After trailing early in the second half, 34-32, guard Vincent Council scored eight points in 1:21 to put Providence back on top en route to their 67-52 win over New Hampshire. Council finished with 17 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds. Guard Gerard Coleman scored 20 points while forward LaDontae Henton finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Friars. Providence travels to face intrastate rival Rhode Island on Friday at 7 p.m.
Forward J.J. Moore scored 15 points while center Dante Taylor added 14 points and eight rebounds as Pittsburgh beat St. Francis (Pa.) 71-47. The Panthers came in leading the nation in rebounding margin and outrebounded the Red Flash 42-21. Pittsburgh hosts Wagner on Friday at 8 p.m.
Four games are on Wednesday’s schedule. Seton Hall, the only BIG EAST team playing on the road, puts its six-game winning streak on the line at Dayton. DePaul, which has won four straight, would match its best start since 1999-200 season with a win against Cal Poly.
Cincinnati goes for its third straight win as the Bearcats face Arkansas-Pine Bluff, while St. John’s hosts Texas-Pan American at Carnesecca Arena in the first meeting between the two schools.
