PROVIDENCE, R.I. –Louisville senior Stewart Ijames was selected as the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Villanova junior Stephen Ostapeck was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the week after the second week of action.
In the Cardinals’ four wins this week, Ijames went 6-for-12 with three home runs, seven RBIs, seven runs scored, a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage. He reached base in 10 straight plate appearances starting with his second plate appearance in Friday’s game and concluding with his fourth on Sunday.
In the second start of his career and first this season pitched a four-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at Norfolk State. Ostapeck is the first pitcher since 2008 to throw a complete game shutout for the Wildcats. He retired 18 of the first 20 batters he faced and allowed just three runners to reach scoring position for the entire game.
