HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Taylor Palmer scored all 11 of her points in the second half to help West Virginia beat Georgetown 39-32 on Sunday in the Big East tournament quarterfinals presented by American Eagles Outfitters.

Both teams struggled on offense, setting the tournament record for fewest combined points in a game, easily coming in under the mark of 87 set in 2002 by Rutgers and Virginia Tech that was matched three years later by St. John’s and Seton Hall.

The Mountaineers will play the winner of Notre Dame and DePaul in the semifinals Monday night.
Leading 21-18 with 14:39 left, West Virginia used a 14-6 run to take control of the game. Palmer hit three 3-pointers during the spurt, including one with 6:56 left that made it 34-24. That was the Mountaineers’ (23-7) final basket of the game.

Georgetown (22-8) tied the record for fewest points scored in a BIG EAST tournament game (32) also set by Villanova against Rutgers on March 5, 2000. GU scored a season-low 12 points in the first half, while WVU scored a season-low 15 points.

Bussie entered the game needing three points for 1,000 in her career. She accomplished the feat midway through the first half as she converted a free throw. Bussie has 1,006 points for her career.

WVU advanced to the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament for the fifth time in an even number year joining (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012).
