PROVIDENCE, R.I. Louisville sophomore Ty Young was selected as the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Rutgers junior Rob Corsiwas named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the week after the fifth week of action.
Young hit .529 (9-for-17) with his first career home run, five RBIs, seven runs scored and two stolen bases on two attempts. He also had an .824 slugging percentage as the Cardinals went 4-1 during the week. Young leads Louisville with a .440 batting average this season to go with a .660 slugging percentage, 11 RBIs, and six stolen bases in his six attempts.
Corsi pitched the first complete game shutout for Rutgers since 2007, leading the team to a 7-0 win over No. 14 Stetson on Sunday. The left-hander did not allow a walk until the ninth inning and surrendered seven hits on the day with four strikeouts. He also induced three double plays to earn his third win of the season in five starts.
