PROVIDENCE, R.I. Connecticut junior Billy Ferriter was selected as the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week and Pittsburgh sophomore Ethan Mildren was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the week after the second weekend of BIG EAST play.
Ferriter batted .524 (11-21) last week, including .750 (9-12) in a three-game BIG EAST series against Seton Hall. He totaled seven runs, five RBIs and four stolen bases. In the series opener against SHU he had a season high four hits in five at-bats. Ferriter hit three doubles, one in each game against the Pirates. He held a .615 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage for the week.
Mildren pitched a complete-game shutout in Pitt’s 6-0 win at Cincinnati. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. With the shutout, Mildren has not allowed a run in 16 consecutive innings, lowering his ERA to 3.65.
