PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse has swept the final BIG EAST women’s lacrosse weekly awards as sophomore Michelle Tumolo was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors and junior teammate Becca Block earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Tumolo earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after amassing 13 points, including seven goals and six assists, in two wins last week. The sophomore tied her career high of eight points with three goals and five assists in an 18-3 win over Villanova on Apr. 29. The win gave Syracuse the regular-season title outright. Tumolo also had five points, including four goals in a 13-12 win over then-No. 14/14 Loyola on Apr. 27.
Block was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for a record fifth time this season following a 2-0 week as she helped limit opponents to just 7.5 goals. In two conference victories, Block had seven draw controls and six ground balls. The junior had four ground balls and four draw controls in a 13-12 win over then-No. 14/14 Loyola to clinch a share of the regular-season title. In an 18-3 win over Villanova to earn the regular-season crown outright, Block help limit the Wildcats to just one goal in the first half. She also scored a goal.
Ashley Hunter, Georgetown, Jr., D
Had four caused turnovers and an assist in a 1-1 week; had an assist in a 9-7 win over Rutgers to help Georgetown advance to the BIG EAST Championship.
Lindsay Powell, Notre Dame, So., A
Scored six goals and totaled five draw controls in a 1-1 week; scored three goals in a loss to No. 1/1 Northwestern.
Hannah Schmitt, Loyola, Fr., A
Scored seven goals in a 1-1 week; had a career-high six goals, including two in the final 10 seconds, in a 13-12 loss to No. 2/2 SU.
Kerry Stoothoff, Loyola, Sr., GK
Totaled 27 saves and 10 ground balls in a 1-1 week; tied a career high with 16 saves in a 13-12 loss at No. 2/2 Syracuse. She also tied a career high with six ground balls against the Orange.
Caroline Tarzian, Georgetown, Fr., A
Had six points, including five goals in a 1-1 week; led the team with five points, including four goals in a 9-7 win over Rutgers to help Georgetown advance to the BIG EAST Championship.

BIG EAST CHAMPionship FINALIZED – Syracuse has earned the No. 1 seed for the 2012 BIG EAST women’s lacrosse championship and will host the tournament beginning Thursday, May 3. The Orange will host No. 4 seed Georgetown at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET at the Carrier Dome. Earlier in the evening, No. 2 seed Loyola will take on No. 3 seed Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. ET in a game also shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Four Teams in the NCAA RPI Top-25 – Syracuse leads the BIG EAST contingent atop the latest NCAA RPI rankings holding the No. 2 spot. The Orange (13-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) are riding a 12-game winning streak and have knocked off seven teams ranked in the top-20 this season. Notre Dame (12-3, 5-2 BIG EAST) checks in at No. 6 in the RPI rankings, while Loyola (10-4, 6-0 BIG EAST) is No. 16 and Georgetown (8-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) is No. 22.
