Two BIG EAST Teams Selected to Compete in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship

Two BIG EAST men’s lacrosse teams will compete in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship as Syracuse earned the league’s automatic berth and Notre Dame was an at-large selection. The Fighting Irish earned a No. 4 seed and will host Yale in the first round on May 13 at 5:15 p.m. ET on ESPNU/ESPN3. Syracuse will play at No. 3 seed Duke on May 12 at 12 p.m., televised on ESPN/ESPN3. 

Syracuse (9-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) defeated No. 2 seed Villanova in the BIG EAST Championship semifinal before beating No. 4 seed St. John’s to earn the BIG EAST Championship title. The Orange outscored opponents 27-10 in the two BIG EAST Championship games. Syracuse ended the regular season ranked seventh nationally in caused turnovers per game (8.93) and first in the league in shots per game (36.07). Syracuse is making its fifth consecutive appearance in the national tournament, and its 32nd overall.

Notre Dame (11-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) went undefeated in league play this season to earn the BIG EAST regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. The Irish ended the regular season ranked first nationally in goals against average (5.75) and man-down defense (.929). Notre Dame went 6-1 against ranked opponents during the regular season and entered the postseason on a 10-game winning streak, before falling to St. John’s in the BIG EAST semifinals. This trip to the NCAA Championship marks the Irish’s seventh-straight and 17th overall.
