Villanova (3-1) freshman Kayla Kenney recorded her first career points, including two goals and one assist in a 3-2 win over La Salle (2-3) on Sept. 5. Sophomore Leah High also scored for the Wildcats. The win avenges a 2-1 loss to the Explorers in exhibition on Aug. 18.
BIG EAST vs. THE REST
The BIG EAST is among the nation’s leaders in overall in goals scored average with three per game, with two teams in the top 25 (No. 2 Syracuse and No. 7 Connecticut).
No. 2 Syracuse and No. 7 Connecticut have also combined for four shutouts in six games, and a goals against average of just 0.420.
BIG EAST vs. RANKED OPPONENTS
All BIG EAST field hockey wins and losses against top 25 teams have been decided by one goal. The BIG EAST is 3-4 against ranked opponents, with three of the four losses coming in overtime. Providence has taken two ranked opponents to extra time.
The BIG EAST returns to action on Sept. 7, highlighted by No. 2 Syracuse at No. 24 New Hampshire and Rutgers at No. 25 Maine.
