THE GAME
Thursday’s game will be the eighth meeting between Rutgers and USF in a series that dates to the 2005 season, when USF joined the BIG EAST … Rutgers is 5-2 against the Bulls, though USF took the last meeting that was played in Tampa in 2010 … The last two meetings have been decided by a combined four points — USF was a 28-27 winner in 2010 and Rutgers scored a 20-17 overtime win last year in Piscataway, N.J., after the Scarlet Knights erased a 17-3 fourth-quarter deficit … One of the more memorable games in the series was in 2007, when unranked Rutgers stunned the No. 2-ranked Bulls 30-27 in Piscataway.

USF enters Thursday’s game looking to carry over the momentum from a wild 32-31 win at Nevada … The Bulls trailed by 11 points with less than three minutes remaining, but rallied with two touchdown passes of more than 50 yards in the final minutes … USF held the lead against Nevada for exactly 38 seconds … The win was the latest in a stretch of quality nonconference road victories for USF — the Bulls won at Notre Dame (then No. 16) in 2011, at Miami (Fla.) in 2010, at Florida State (then No. 18) in 2009, at Kansas (then No. 13) in 2008 and at Auburn (then No. 17) in 2007 … QB B.J.
