Senior CLASS Award Candidates Announced

The BIG EAST has three on the list of Senior CLASS Award candidates. Connecticut’s Carlos Alvarez was named to list along with Notre Dame’s Dillon Powers and Grant Van De Casteele.

Two Games Moved

Seton Hall’s game at Delaware has been moved to Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., while Connecticut’s home game against Boston College was also moved to Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Tuesday Night’s Game

Louisville posted a 4-0 win against Ohio State. The Cardinals finished the game with a 15-6 shot advantage while corner kicks were tied at four apiece.

BIG EAST in the Polls

The BIG EAST has three teams ranked in the top 10 of the NSCAA poll, with Connecticut leading the way at No. 2. Notre Dame is ranked fourth and Georgetown is ninth. Following not far behind, St. John’s is 13th and Marquette is 14th with USF listed at No. 22. Louisville received votes. In the Soccer America national poll, Notre Dame leads the way at No. 2, with the Huskies right behind at No. 3. Marquette is No. 10, St. John’s is No. 13 and Georgetown is ranked 15th.

Golden Eagles Stellar on the Road

Marquette garnered a pair of 2-1 victories over Big Ten opponents over the weekend with a home win over Michigan on Friday and three points on the road Sunday at Michigan State. At 7-0-0, Marquette is off to its best start in program history and has won its last eight regular-season matches going back to last season, including three-straight road wins to open the 2012 campaign.

Fighting Irish On a Winning Streak

Notre Dame went 2-0 on the weekend with a home win over Michigan State (2-0) and a double-overtime road victory against Michigan (1-0). Notre Dame is off to a 7-0 start this season, the best start for the Fighting Irish in the 12 seasons of the Bobby Clark era. Notre Dame’s last 7-0 start came in 1987 when that Irish squad opened 9-0. This is the longest winning streak for Notre Dame since a seven-game streak in 2006.

The Red Storm Off to a Great Start

St. John’s extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to eight games (5-0-3) with an 0-0-2 weekend at Akron.  The start is the best since an 8-0-2 stretch to open the 2008 season. In its first game of the season against a ranked opponent, St. John’s played No. 9/9 Akron (Sept. 14) to a scoreless draw.  The game marked the first time this season that the Red Storm was held scoreless.

The Hoyas Remain Unbeaten

Georgetown continued its best start in program history, sitting at 7-0-1. The ranking of 12th in the NSCAA poll is the highest the Hoyas have ever been under head coach Brian Wiese.

Connecticut Under Coach Reid

Connecticut (5-0-1) has started the season undefeated through the first six games for third straight season and the sixth time under Ray Reid.

Providence Comeback Win

The Friars came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Holy Cross 2-1. After starting the season with a 1-3-0 mark, the Friars are 1-1-1 in their last three games. Sophomore defender Brandon Adler scored the game-winning goal at 82:48 for his first goal of the season and his first career game-winning strike.

Soldout Crowd

The Cardinals played in front of the second largest crowd at Cardinal Park on Friday night against Kentucky.  A crowd of 5,583 filled the park.
