THE GAME
Saturday’s game will be the 13th meeting between Connecticut and Temple … The series dates to 1963 … Temple holds an 8-4 series lead, though Connecticut won the only meeting between the schools as BIG EAST members, when the Huskies were 45-31 winners at Rentschler Field in 2004 … Connecticut had won three straight in the series from 2004-08, but Temple was a 30-16 winner in Philadelphia in 2010 … Temple coach Steve Addazio served as an assistant coach to Connecticut’s Paul Pasqualoni at Western Connecticut (1985-87) and Syracuse (1995-98).

Temple snapped a brief, two-game losing streak with a 37-28 win against USF last Saturday … The Owls will play outside the state of Pennsylvania for the first time this season … Temple dropped a 24-13 decision at Penn State Sept. 22 … The Owls rank eighth in the BIG EAST in total offense, averaging 303.0 yards per game, but are third in the league in scoring (29.5 ppg) … Temple ranks second in the BIG EAST in rushing at 170.5 yards per game … RB Matt Brown is averaging 65.2 rushing yards per game, while QB Chris Coyer averages 62.2 yards, putting the duo sixth and seventh, respectively, in the BIG EAST … RB Montel Harris — a transfer from Boston College — stepped in to deliver a 133-yard effort against the Bulls … Coyer has thrown for 530 yards and five touchdowns and has two rushing TDs… The defense has been led by LB Nate D. Smith, a redshirt freshman who has a team-high 29 tackles … LB Trevor Matakevitch made his first career start against USF and delivered a game-high 15 tackles against the Bulls … K/P Brandon McManus has made 7-of 9 field goal attempts and is the BIG EAST’s leading scorer at 8.5 points per game … McManus also leads the conference in punting at 45.8 yards per punt.

Connecticut fell to 3-3 with a 19-3 loss at Rutgers last Saturday … The Huskies have not had a winning or losing streak this season … The Huskies lead the BIG EAST and rank sixth nationally in total defense (248.8 yards per game) … Connecticut is eighth nationally in rushing defense (82.3 ypg) and 11th in pass defense (166.5 ypg) … Individually, DE Trevardo Williams is the BIG EAST leader in sacks (6.5, 1.1per game), while LB Yawin Smallwood leads the league in tackles (62, 10.3 tpg) and tackles for loss (11.0, 1.8 per game) … QB Chandler Whitmer has completed 97 of 166 passes for 1,242 yards and four touchdowns, but has a league-high 10 interceptions … RB Lyle McCombs is fifth in the BIG EAST in rushing (80.7 ypg) … WR Geremy Davis has 23 receptions for 346 yards and a touchdown, while TE Ryan Griffin has a team-high two touchdown catches … WR Nick Williams is averaging a BIG EAST-leading 14.8 yards per punt return and is seventh in the BIG EAST in all-purpose yards (103.2 ypg).
