PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville linebacker Preston Brown and USF kicker Maikon Bonani the winners of the league's weekly football honors for the week-ending Oct. 28.
Bridgewater was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after he threw for a career-high 416 yards with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to help Louisville remain unbeaten in a 34-31 overtime win against Cincinnati. With Louisville trailing 24-14 in the fourth quarter, Bridgewater threw touchdown passes of 30 and 64 yards to engineer the comeback. He completed passes to seven different receivers to help Louisville to its first 8-0 overall since 2006. Bridgewater has completed 70.7 percent of his passes this season (162 of 229) and has thrown 13 touchdown passes with just four interceptions.
Brown was tabbed as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after he registered a game-high 13 tackles and had an interception to help Louisville to a 34-31 overtime win against Cincinnati. He led a defense that limited Cincinnati — which had gained at least 425 yards in each of its first six games — to a season-low 353 yards with three turnovers. Brown ranks 10th in the BIG EAST in tackles this season, with an average of 7.2 stops per game.
Bonani - the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week - scored a school-record 18 points — the most by a BIG EAST kicker in a game this season — in USF’s 37-36 loss to Syracuse. He was 5-for-5 on field goal attempts, connecting from 35, 32, 46, 41 and 47 yards, and was 3-for-3 on PATs. His 41-yard field goal allowed USF to take a 26-24 lead into the fourth quarter and his 47-yard kick gave the Bulls a 36-31 lead with 1:23 remaining. Bonani has scored 296 career points, the most of any active BIG EAST player.
