FIRST ROUND RECAP – The top four seeds in the league head to Storrs, Conn., for the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship. National Division No. 2 seed Notre Dame (13-4-2) will face American Division No. 1 seed Marquette (14-2-2) on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. ET. American Division No. 2 seed USF (10-5-3) takes on National Division No. 1 seed Georgetown (15-2-2) in the nightcap at 6:30 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
The most exciting game Sunday saw USF advance past Louisville 4-3 on penalty kicks. The game was recorded as a scoreless draw 0-0 forcing the deciding shootout.
USF freshman Olivia Chance set up, jogged to the ball and sent the Bulls to the BIG EAST semifinals. Freshman keeper Christiane Endler continued to be a force in front of the net and made a diving stop during the shootout to help the Bulls gain an advantage.
Elsewhere, Notre Dame beat Syracuse 1-0, while Marquette topped UConn 4-1. Georgetown edged DePaul 1-0.
Georgetown, Marquette and USF are looking for their first BIG EAST tournament titles. Notre Dame has won 11 BIG EAST tournament titles, more than any league member. Both semifinal matchups will be the first meeting between the teams this year.
