Villanova Wildcats Women's Basketball
Coach Harry Perretta Interview
The Big Picture:
Entering the 2012-13 season, the Wildcats return 92.7 percent of the scoring from last year. The Wildcats will have an experienced team this season, returning nine letterwinners and four starters from last year’s team, which went 19-15 overall and advanced to the third round of the WNIT. The Wildcats will have seven seniors on the 2012-13 roster.
Villanova returns its top six scorers from last year, led by senior Laura Sweeney. Last season, Sweeney led the Wildcats in scoring (14.4 ppg.), rebounding (7.6 rpg.), field goal percentage (.504), steals (52) and blocks (39). Senior guard Rachel Roberts ranked second on the team in scoring with 8.6 ppg and second in made 3-point field goals with 56. As a redshirt freshman last year, guard/forward Lauren Burford averaged 8.2 points per game and led the team in 3-point field goals made with 62. Burford was named to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team.
The Wildcats lose one starter from last season. Villanova will look to replace guard Lindsey Kimmel, who played in 33 games last year, averaging 4.2 ppg and 2.5 rpg. She added 52 assists.
The Wildcats will once again be a 3-point shooting team in 2012-13. Last year, the Wildcats made 275 three-point field goals and outscored their opponents by a 825-393 margin from behind the arc. Sophomore Lauren Burford (62 made 3-pointers) and senior Rachel Roberts (56) are the team’s top two returning 3-point shooters.
