THE GAME
Saturday’s game will be the 39th meeting between Rutgers and Army, which are separated by about 90 miles … Rutgers holds a 20-18 series lead and has won the last eight meetings … The schools have met each year since 2007, but Saturday’s game will be the first since 2009 to be played on-campus … The 2010 matchup was played at MetLife Stadium, while last year’s game took place at Yankee Stadium … Rutgers has not lost to Army since 1997 and hasn’t lost to the Black Knights in Piscataway since 1972 … BIG EAST teams have won 14 straight games against Army.

Rutgers saw an eight-game winning streak end with an Oct. 27 loss to Kent State … The Scarlet Knights were idle last week … Rutgers is 4-0 in BIG EAST play for the second time in school history (2006) … Rutgers’ next win this season would make Kyle Flood the third Scarlet Knight coach — and the first since John Bateman in 1960 — to win eight games in his first season … The Scarlet Knights rank fourth nationally in rushing defense (88.5 ypg) and sixth nationally in scoring defense (14.3 ppg) … RB Jawan Jamison is second in the BIG EAST in rushing at 107.9 yards per game … Jamison has rushed for at least 100 yards in six of his eight games this season … QB Gary Nova has thrown for 1,816 yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions … LB Khaseem Greene, the 2011 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 74 tackles to go with 3.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and two interceptions … Greene, a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player, is one of three members of the Rutgers defense who are candidates for national honors … LB Steve Beauharnais is a semifinalist for the Butkus Award as the top linebacker, while CB Logan Ryan is a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, which goes to the top defensive back.

Army improved to 2-7 with a 41-21 win at Air Force last Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. … The Black Knights snapped a 13-game losing streak, dating to 2005, in the annual Commander In Chief’s Trophy series against Air Force and Navy …  The game against Rutgers will be the first of two straight against BIG EAST opponents for Army, which hosts Temple Nov. 17 … Army’s triple-option offense leads the nation in rushing … The Black Knights average 375.4 rushing yards per game … Conversely, Army is 119th nationally in passing averaging just 67.3 yards per game … QB Trent Steelman is ranked 29th among individual players in rushing at 101.2 yards per game … Steelman has registered three straight 100-yard games and would tie a program record for consecutive 100-yard performances if he hits triple digits against Rutgers …  Steelman has rushed for 911 yards and 12 touchdowns.
