Notre Dame Sweeps Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Frank Dyer of Notre Dame was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming and diving for the second consecutive week and sophomore Emma Reaney of Notre Dame earned BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors in women’s swimming and diving in the fourth weekly awards of the 2012-13 season.

 

Dyer helped the Fighting Irish defeat Pittsburgh, 176-124 and No. 23 Louisville, 155.5-145.5 in a dual meet on Nov. 10. The senior claimed four individual first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (45.09), 200 freestyle (1:36.85), 500 freestyle (4:29.11) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:25.49). He also swam the 50 freestyle in 20.28 seconds as a member of the second-place 200 freestyle relay squad.

 

Reaney placed first in four individual events in a dual meet against Pittsburgh and No. 19 Louisville. The sophomore won the 200 freestyle (1:50.55), 100 breaststroke (1:00.95), 200 breaststroke (2:13.57) and 200 individual medley (1:59.70). She also was a member of two 200 medley relay teams that won first place against Pittsburgh in 1:43.05 and first place against Louisville in 1:41.64.

 

The 2012-13 Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors will be awarded throughout the season when at least half of the teams are participating. The next weekly awards will be announced on Nov. 20.

  • Louisville sophomore Caryle Blondell has the fastest time in the country in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 19.90 and 43.62 seconds respectively.
  • Notre Dame sophomore Emma Reaney has the second fastest time in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 1:59.70.
  • Louisville junior Kameron Chastain has the third fasted NCAA time in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 54.53 seconds.
  • Louisville freshman Bryan Draganosky’s time of 15:32.73 in the 1,650 freestyle is the third fastest in the country.
  • The Louisville men’s 200 freestyle relay squad has the fastest time in the country with a mark of 1:19.93.
  • Notre Dame and Louisville ranked No. 18 and No. 19 respectively in the Oct. 31 women’s CSCAA coaches’ poll. The Fighting Irish and Cardinals ranked No. 18 and No. 23 nationally in the men’s Nov. 6 CSCAA coaches’ poll.
  • Notre Dame’s men’s team defeated No. 18 Purdue on Nov. 2, 156-144 and No. 23  Louisville on Nov. 10, 155.5-145.5. It was their first win over the Cardinal since 2006-07. The Fighting Irish, at 5-0, are off to their best start since 2006-07, when the team started 8-0.
