THE GAME
Saturday’s game will be the 18th meeting between Cincinnati and Rutgers in a series that dates to the 1980 season … The series is tied 8-8-1 after Rutgers’ 20-3 win last season in Piscataway, N.J. … The Bearcats had won five straight in the series prior … Rutgers RB Jawan Jamison rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in last year’s win and the Scarlet Knight defense limited the Bearcats to 225 yards of offense.

Rutgers is looking for its first 5-0 start in BIG EAST play in school history … The Scarlet Knights answered their first loss of the season (a 35-23 setback to Kent State) with a 28-7 win against Army last week … Head coach Kyle Flood is the third Scarlet Knight coach — and the first since John Bateman in 1960 — to win eight games in his first season … The Scarlet Knights rank fifth nationally in scoring defense (13.4 ppg) and 14th in total defense (309.4 ypg) … RB Jawan Jamison is second in the BIG EAST and 24th nationally in rushing at 105.9 yards per game … Jamison has rushed for at least 100 yards in six of his nine games this season … QB Gary Nova has thrown for 1,939 yards and 18 touchdowns with 10 interceptions … LB Khaseem Greene, the 2011 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 96 tackles to go with 3.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and two interceptions … Greene, a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player, is one of three members of the Rutgers defense who are candidates for national honors … LB Steve Beauharnais is a semifinalist for the Butkus Award as the top linebacker, while CB Logan Ryan is a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, which goes to the top defensive back.

Cincinnati has won its last two games — most recently a 31-10 win against Temple last Saturday … Cincinnati’s two losses this season are by a combined nine points … The Bearcats have averaged 34.2 points per game to lead the BIG EAST … RB George Winn leads the BIG EAST in rushing at 108.9 yards per game … Winn has rushed for 980 yards and nine touchdowns and is averaging 5.7 yards per carry … QB Brendon Kay made his first career start last week against Temple and threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 77 yards on seven carries in the win … RB Ralph David Abernathy IV is averaging 130.9 all-purpose yards per game, good for third in the conference … WR Kenbrell Thompkins has 25 catches for 417 yards, while WR Damon Julian and TE Travis Kelce have a team-high four touchdown receptions each … LB Greg Blair has a team-high 89 tackles and ranks third in the BIG EAST at 9.9 tackles per game … K Tony Miliano is the leading scorer in the BIG EAST with an average of 8.2 points per game.
