THE GAME
Thursday’s game will be the 12th meeting between Louisville and Rutgers in a series that dates to 1976 … The teams have met every year since 2005, when Louisville joined the BIG EAST … Rutgers leads the overall series 7-4, though Louisville holds a 4-3 advantage in BIG EAST games … Louisville has won the last two meetings, including a 16-14 decision at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in 2011 … The signature game in the series came in 2006, when 15th-ranked Rutgers beat No. 3 Louisville 28-25 in Piscataway … That turned out to be the only loss for Louisville, which went on to win the outright BIG EAST title and earn an Orange Bowl win against Wake Forest.

Louisville looks to bounce back from back-to-back losses, including a 23-20 setback to Connecticut in triple-overtime last Saturday … Louisville has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the BCS standings this season … A win against Rutgers would clinch a share of Louisville’s third BIG EAST title — the Cardinals won outright in 2006 and tied with West Virginia and Cincinnati for the crown last year … A win would also all but officially put the Cardinals in a BCS game, based on BIG EAST tiebreaking policies … QB Teddy Bridgewater, who has thrown for 3,189 yards and 23 touchdowns this season, was twice forced from the game against Connecticut, but returned to finish the game … Bridgewater, who suffered wrist and ankle injuries against the Huskies, is expected to start Thursday … RB Senorise Perry, the team’s leading rusher, was lost for the season with a knee injury against Syracuse Nov. 3 … RB Jeremy Wright (723 yards, 9 TDs) will see most of the carries the rest of the way … LB Preston Brown has a team-high 90 tackles … S Calvin Pryor has 87 tackles with two interceptions and four forced fumbles.
