The first day of the SEC-BIG EAST Challenge saw home court prove to be the difference as the two homestanding BIG EAST teams earned wins, while the two that played on the road came up short.
Notre Dame and St. John’s were the BIG EAST winners Thursday as the Irish knocked off No. 7 Kentucky 64-50, while the Red Storm got past South Carolina 89-65.
The Challenge stands tied at 2-2 heading Friday’s quartet, with two games on ESPN and two on ESPNU. No. 20/25
Georgetown, which has won 18 of its last 19 home games, gets things started on ESPN with a 6:30 p.m. start against a Tennessee squad that brings a 4-1 record to the Verizon Center. The nightcap on ESPN has No. 6/5 Syracuse on the road to face Arkansas. It will be just the second meeting between Syracuse and Arkansas and the first since the 1995 NCAA tournament as the Orange look to snap the Razorbacks’ 25-game home winning streak against nonconference opponents.
The ESPNU twinbill begins at 7 p.m. as USF hosts Georgia at the Sun Dome in the first meeting between the schools. DePaul will face Auburn for the first time as the Blue Demons take on the Tigers at 9 p.m. ET.
