WBB Minute – Friday Night Lights, Two Teams In Action

Updated BIG EAST Notes

A pair of BIG EAST teams will be under the lights Friday night as DePaul (6-2) plays at No. 7/6 Kentucky and Providence (2-6) hosts Arizona State. Both contests tipoff at 7 p.m.

DePaul’s game in Lexington, Ky., also will serve as a homecoming for senior star Anna Martin. The guard, who attended nearby Lexington Christian and helped the team to three state titles (2007-09), ranks among the team leaders in scoring at 12.1. She also ranks second in the BIG EAST with 5.3 assists per game. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports South and can also been seen online via WatchESPN. The contest will be played in Rupp Arena.

In the Ocean State, the Friars host the Sun Devils and look to continue their impressive play at home. Providence is averaging 73 ppg in their home games this year and just 47 ppg on the road. Senior Symone Roberts leads the team in scoring with 12.9 ppg.

In action on Thursday night, No. 2/2 UConn (8-0) beat No. 10/10 Penn State 67-52 at Gampel Pavilion. Sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, last year’s BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, scored a season-high 25 points to lead the UConn attack. She canned four 3-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and had four steals. Highlights are available here.

Mosqueda-Lewis started the game despite a left thigh bruise that kept her out of more than half of the win over Maryland last Monday. The second-year guard also missed the previous game against Colgate after sustaining a concussion against Purdue on Nov. 24.

In addition, Rutgers (4-3) stymied Long Island 58-32. The Scarlet Knights held the Blackbirds to just five field goals in the second half and only 13 points. Senior Monique Oliver led the RU offense with 18 points, including the 1,000th point of her career.
