Updated BIG EAST Notes
With just a handful of nonconference games remaining, a majority of the league turns to conference play on Saturday. On Wednesday, five teams close out their nonleague schedules, beginning with Marquette (7-5) at Central Michigan at 2 p.m., while Pittsburgh (8-4) is at Old Dominion at 3 p.m.
Later in the evening, Georgetown (8-4) hosts Temple at 7 p.m, St. John’s (6-5) welcomes Delaware at 7 p.m., and Rutgers (8-4) takes on LaSalle at 7:30 p.m.
Just before New Year’s, four league teams were in action and picked up wins. No. 1/1 Connecticut (11-0) won at Oregon 95-51, while No. 5/5 Notre Dame (11-1) beat St. Francis (Pa.) 128-55 at home. UConn hosts the Irish on Saturday at 4 p.m. on CBS. The game at 10,000-seat Gampel Pavilion is sold out.
Elsewhere, No. 11/10 Louisville (12-2) beat Tennessee State 88-25 at home and USF (11-2) knocked off Detroit 74-60 and gave coach Jose Fernandez career win No. 200.
