PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Villanova freshman Kelsey Margey and Louisville freshman Edwin Kibichiy earned BIG EAST indoor track honors this week after posting top rookie times. Connecticut senior Victoria Flowers and Rutgers senior Chris Wyckoff were named BIG EAST indoor field athletes of the week.
In his collegiate debut, Kibichiy finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:17.54 at the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 12 to earn BIG EAST Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors. Kibichiy’s time ranks first among freshmen and 17th overall nationally. The freshman’s time tops league runners by more than five seconds.
Fellow freshman Kelsey Margey took first place in the 1,000m with a time of 2:43.89 at the NYC Gotham Cup at the Armory on Jan. 11 to be named BIG EAST Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Margey finished with a personal best time by more than five seconds, and won the race by more than four seconds. Her time is the best in the BIG EAST this season. The freshman also helped Villanova to a first-place finish in the 4x800m relay by more than one minute.
At the NYRR College Night at the Armory on Jan. 12, Connecticut’s Victoria Flowers won the shot put and weight throw to take BIG EAST Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. Her throw of 16.43m in the shot put is ninth in the nation, while her weight throw toss of 20.84m ranks third in the nation. Her shot put mark currently ranks second and her weight throw ranks first in the league.
Rutgers senior Chris Wyckoff was named BIG EAST Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after setting a Rutgers facility record in the pole vault with a mark of 5.12m on Jan. 4. The senior’s mark is top in the league and ranks tenth nationally.
According to the NCAA, “qualification to the [NCAA] championships is based on the descending-order list for the season…for each individual event contested, the top 16 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay contested, the top 12 relay teams will be accepted into the competition…There are no qualifying standards for the championships season.”
The BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place Feb. 16-17 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

· Cincinnati junior Kaitlyn Good recorded an 800m time of 2:13.79 at the SPIRE Institute Collegiate Season Opener
o The time ranks fifth in the league, but came during pentathlon competition
o Good’s pentathlon total of 3,907 pts., ranks first in the league and third nationally
· Connecticut men’s relay teams recorded top times at the Yale Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 12
o The Huskies finished first in the DMR with a time of 9:59.57, which ranks first in the league and fifth nationally
o The 4x800m relay team also finished first (7:41.59) to take the top league time
· The Marquette women’s team won six events at the Badger Track Classic on Jan. 12
o Freshman Molly Hanson won the 1,000m (2:57.87), and classmate Sarah Poirier won the 3,000m (10:14.14)
o Sophomore Krista McClure won the 800m (2:19.82)
o Freshman Tatyana Pashibin won the high jump (1.68m)
· Rutgers freshman Emeke Eze placed top-3 in two events at the Gotham Cup on Jan. 11
o Eze won the long jump with a mark of 7.25m. The mark is second in the league behind teammate Corey Crawford
o The freshman also finished third in the 60m (6.93). His time ranks fifth in the league and second among freshmen
