WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Wiese was named the NSCAA/Field Turf Division I Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association on America at their annual awards banquet in Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday evening. Wiese was given the highest honor in Division I soccer, while Associate Head Coach Zach Samol was also named the Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Hoyas put together a historic season going 19-4-3, and advancing to the national championship where the team fell, 1-0, to Indiana University. Along the way, the 2012 team advanced further than any team in program history, won the BIG EAST Blue Division Regular Season, made it to the BIG EAST Tournament Championship and set a new record for wins in a season.

Wiese's players were recognized with a number of conference, regional and national awards as well as three of the seniors being selected in Major League Soccer's SuperDraft on Thursday marking the most players selected from one program this season.

In seven seasons on the Hilltop he has posted a mark of 74-50-15. Georgetown has won two BIG EAST Blue Division Regular Season Championship and earned a pair of berths in the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, Wiese and his staff were also named the 2010 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.

He has led the Blue & Gray to six-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament berths and wins over a number of ranked opponents to put GU on the national stage.

Before coming to Georgetown, Wiese worked as an assistant coach for fi ve seasons at Stanford University and then for five years at Notre Dame. In those 10 seasons, the teams posted a combined record of 136-48-25, advanced to nine-straight NCAA tournaments and made one trip to the championship match. He has coached 14 All-Americans, nine Academic All-American selections, a BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, a BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and five players who were candidates for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
