Harry Getting it Done on the Boards
DePaul senior Katherine Harry grabbed 12 rebounds in a win against Seton Hall on Feb. 6. She remained the league’s active career leader with 500 boards in BIG EAST play and needs three more to move into 20th place on the all-time list in conference play. The Blue Demons are back in action at No. 3/2 Connecticut, playing at Gampel Pavilion on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
Muffet Reaches 700
No. 2/3 Notre Dame defeated Villanova 59-52 on Feb. 5 for its 16th straight win. The victory was the 700th career win in 31 seasons for coach Muffet McGraw, including 26 seasons coaching Notre Dame. McGraw became the 13th coach in Division I history to reach the 700-victory milestone. The BIG EAST has four active coaches with more than 600 wins (C. Vivian Stringer, Geno Auriemma, Muffet McGraw and Harry Perretta), more than any other league. Stringer leads the group with 898 wins, while Auriemma has 825. McGraw has 700 and Perretta has 633.
Syracuse’s Successes this Season
Syracuse’s 19-3 overall record is its best after 22 games in program history, while its 7-2 BIG EAST record surpasses its league win total from last season. Syracuse made its season debut in this week’s Associated Press Poll, ranking No. 24. It is the Orange’s first ranking in the AP poll since Jan. 10, 2011. Syracuse has been ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for three straight weeks. The Orange are unbeaten at home this season (10-0) and return to action on Feb. 12 at Georgetown for an 8 p.m. ET tip.
Two BIG EAST Players Named Senior CLASS Award Finalists
On Feb. 6, the 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award were chosen by a media committee from 30 candidates announced in October. There are two BIG EAST seniors on the list - Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins and DePaul’s Anna Martin. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. The winner will be announced during the Final Four in New Orleans April 7 and 9.
