BIG EAST Baseball Statistics
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Pittsburgh outfielder Casey Roche was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week after a 3-0 sweep of Wichita State last week. Louisville’s Jeff Thompson was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Roche went 8-for-14 last weekend with seven RBI and two home runs to help the Panthers down Wichita State, marking the first time any team has swept a three-game series in Wichita in 43 years. Pittsburgh also handed 35th-year Wichita State head coach Gene Stephenson his first home loss in February all-time. With the sweep, Pittsburgh begins its season 3-0 for the first time since 2002.
Thompson struck out 12 batters in five innings en route to a 10-1 win for Louisville over USF on Feb. 16. The junior set a BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge record for single-game strikeouts in just five innings. The Cardinals went 2-1 last week, with a 9-4 win over Purdue on Feb. 17 and a 2-0 loss to Indiana on Feb. 15.

Jagielo went 6-for-11 including a double, two home runs and eight RBI in a 2-1 week.
Nick McCarty, Notre Dame, Fr., RHP
McCarty made his debut for the Fighting Irish with a five shutout relief innings in a 6-5 victory over Florida Gulf Coast.
Jon Prosinski, Seton Hall, Sr., RHP
Prosinski pitched seven innings against No. 1 North Carolina, allowing one run and three hits in a 1-0 loss.
Chris Norton, USF, Sr. C
Norton batted 6-for-10 in a 1-2 week for the Bulls, recording four hits, two RBI and three runs scored.
