HARTFORD, Conn. - Led by a game-high 18 points from senior Brittany Morris, Seton Hall (11-19) beat Cincinnati (12-18) by the score of 60-55 in the First Round of the BIG EAST women’s basketball Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters. The game was held at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
With the win, No. 12 seed Seton Hall advances to play No. 5 seed St. John’s on Saturday, March 9 at Noon, ET. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network across numerous regional sports networks including SNY. The contest also will be available free online at www.bigeast.tv
In Friday afternoon’s contest, the game was evenly matched in the first half with neither team leading by more than five points. The Bearcats held a 30-28 advantage at halftime.
SHU opened the second half on a 15-5 run and never looked back. The Pirates led 43-35 with 13:15 left in the game.
The Pirates also won their first game in the BIG EAST Championship since 2009. Seton Hall beat Georgetown 70-45 in the First Round in 2009 at the XL Center.
Cincinnati was led by freshman Alexis Durley who had 11 points.
