Golden Eagles make 17th post-season appearance
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Marquette women's basketball team has earned an at-large bid in Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) announced Monday night by WNIT officials. The Golden Eagles will host Northern Iowa on Friday, March 22. Game times are still to be determined.
The selection into the 64-team field marks the 17th post-season appearance in program history for the Golden Eagles, who compiled a 16-15 overall record and a 7-9 mark in BIG EAST action. This is the 14th post-season appearance since head coach Terri Mitchell began her tenure at Marquette in 1996 and the first for MU since the 2010-11 season.
The selection into the WNIT field is the program's eighth all-time. The Golden Eagles are 13-7 all-time in WNIT/NWIT play. Marquette was last a participant in the 2010 WNIT, falling 74-72 at Illinois in overtime in second round action.
Northern Iowa is 16-16 overall and was 10-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and will be making its fourth consecutive post-season appearance. Friday will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Panthers with UNI holding a 3-2 overall mark in the series.
Tickets will be $10 for chairback seats, and $7 for GA bench seating. Tickets can be purchased starting Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., and will be available in person at the McGuire Center or by calling the ticket office at 414-288-4668 from 8 a.m - 5 p.m. Admission is free for all students.
