BIG EAST baseball statistics
Cincinnati (7-10) recorded its seventh win with a 4-3 victory over Northern Kentucky in Cincinnati. Designated hitter Brendon Neel went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Bearcats.
Georgetown (14-6) scored a season-high 17 runs at Maryland-Eastern Shore to earn a 17-15 win. Freshman Curtiss Pomeroy and senior Trevor Mattern each recorded three hits apiece in the victory.
Louisville (18-2) went 2-0 against USC in a midweek matchup, downing the Trojans 6-3 on Wednesday. The Cardinals are out to their best start through 20 games since 2010.
Rutgers (6-10) rebounded from a one-run extra innings loss against VCU to claim the second game of a two-game series 9-6 in Richmond. Rob Corsi claimed the win on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out three in just over three innings of work.
St. John’s (7-11) extended its winning streak to five with a 9-6 win over Long Island in Brooklyn. Outfielder Alex Caruso went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. The freshman was also walked twice to help the Red Storm to an early 2-0 lead.
Seton Hall (7-10) won its fourth in a row over Saint Peter’s by a score of 10-1 in South Orange. Anthony Elia picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings with three strikeouts and no walks allowed.
Villanova (5-13) lost 12-5 to crosstown rival Penn in Philadelphia. Designated hitter Luke Emling went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored in the loss.
All league teams except Villanova begin conference play this weekend. The Connecticut-Georgetown matchup was moved from Storrs, Conn., to Bethesda, Md., due to weather and field conditions.
