The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community.
The awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in their respective sports. A total of 263 schools, out of 347 Division I colleges and universities, placed at least one team on the top APR list, including 15 of the 16 BIG EAST schools.
Rutgers' Benjamin Forrest and Notre Dame's Allison Schroeder to receive $5,000 scholarships in recognition of outstanding leadership, academics, athletic performance and community service.
Kulla receives a $4,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies. Conference also announces the female winners of the 2011-12 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships.
The winners were chosen based on the 2010-11 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
