BIG EAST lands 22 on All-Region Teams

The 2010 season concluded for the remaining two BIG EAST field hockey teams last weekend as Syracuse and Connecticut both fell in the second round of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.

The 2010 season continues for two BIG EAST field hockey teams as Syracuse and Connecticut will participate in the 2010 NCAA Championship with opening round play starting Nov. 13.

Four BIG EAST field hockey players from three different schools were selected to compete in the 2010 NFHCA Division I Senior Game November 20 at the University of Maryland.

No. 4 Connecticut swept the BIG EAST field hockey weekly awards as freshman Anne Jeute was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while junior Justine Angelini took home Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Connecticut senior forward Loren Sherer was named Mideast Region Player of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association following a record-breaking season. Along with Sherer, 17 other BIG EAST field hockey student-athletes earned 2009 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I All-Region honors, including 11 receiving first team recognition.

The University of Connecticut field hockey team tied its highest ranking of the season as they earned the No. 5 spot in the final installment of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Field Hockey Coaches Poll.

Both teams will play Sunday at 2 p.m. in second round.

The University of Connecticut field hockey team fell 4-3 in double overtime to The University of North Carolina Friday in the semifinal round of the NCAA Championship at Trager Stadium.

Two BIG EAST field hockey teams, Syracuse and Connecticut, were selected to participate in the 16-team 2011 NCAA Championship.

No. 2 seed Syracuse defeated No. 1 seed Connecticut 3-2 to win the 2011 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship Sunday at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
