The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community.

The awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in their respective sports. A total of 263 schools, out of 347 Division I colleges and universities, placed at least one team on the top APR list, including 15 of the 16 BIG EAST schools.

List of winners includes eight Academic All-America selections and four NCAA Postgraduate Scholars

Two BIG EAST athletes were named to the women’s 2011 Capital One Academic All-America University Division At-Large teams as announced Thursday.

Three BIG EAST athletes, representing three different schools were named to the men’s 2011 Capital One Academic All-America University Division teams as announced Tuesday.

 Two West Virginia cross country and track & field standouts were the BIG EAST's representatives on the ESPN The Magazine Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Academic All-America Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

 Marquette junior Peter Bolgert was named to the Academic All-America Second Team, while Syracuse graduate student Jeff Scull was a third-team selection.

The BIG EAST Conference has announced the 24 winners of the 2009-10 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards, which recognize academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. 

 West Virginia University linebacker Reed Williams, an All-BIG EAST performer, two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection and a member of the National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Team, has been chosen as the 2009 BIG EAST Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 

Two BIG EAST Conference standouts were among the 58 fall winners of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, which recognize student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions who excel academically and athletically.
