Two familiar names were called as 2010 BIG EAST Tennis Players of the Year, as Louisville junior Austen Childs earned his second straight annual recognition, while last season's Freshman of the Year, Notre Dame sophomore Kristy Frilling, also was honored. Frilling's teammate, Irish freshman Chrissie McGaffigan, was named women's Freshman of the Year, while Mike Lampa of St. John's earned the men's honor.

No. 1 seed Notre Dame won its 10th women's BIG EAST Tennis Championship title after defeating No. 3 seed DePaul 4-0. The Irish earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship and will be making their 15th consecutive appearance in the national tournament and 17th overall.

The top-seeded Cardinals bested the second seed Irish 4-0 to earn the program's second men's BIG EAST Tennis Championship title. Louisville earns the league's automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Championship, marking its seventh NCAA invite.

Notre Dame senior Daniel Stahl and Cincinnati sophomore Jasmine Lee were named BIG EAST Male Tennis Player of the Week and BIG EAST Female Tennis Player of the Week, respectively.

The Notre Dame men’s tennis team opened its NCAA schedule on Saturday with a 4-3 victory over Vanderbilt on the campus of Ohio State University and the Notre Dame women fell 4-2 to Northwestern.
