No. 2 seed Notre Dame rolled to a 5-0 victory over No. 7 seed Rutgers in the fourth game of the 2012 BIG EAST Softball Championship at Melissa Cook Stadium on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

No. 1 seed Louisville earned a shutout victory over No. 8 Connecticut, winning 8-0 in five innings of Game 2 of the 2012 BIG EAST Softball Championship at Melissa Cook Stadium at the University of Notre Dame.

Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, USF, DePaul, St. John’s, Rutgers and Connecticut will all be competing for the championship crown.

Louisville junior first baseman/designated player Alicja Wolny was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and UofL senior Tori Collins was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the 10th week of action.

USF sophomore first baseman Stephanie Medina was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and USF sophomore Sara Nevins was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the seventh week of action.

St. John’s senior catcher/third baseman Kacee Cox was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and DePaul sophomore Kirsten Verdun was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the 12th week of action.

Freshman Kayla Soles hit a two-out, two-RBI double to give No. 1 Louisville a 2-0 victory over No. 5 DePaul in the first semifinal of the 2012 BIG EAST Softball Championship at Melissa Cook Stadium on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

Louisville freshman shortstop/designated player Whitney Arion was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and Syracuse senior Jenna Caira was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the fourth week of action.
