Louisville junior Matt Hughes captured the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase national title to highlight BIG EAST's performances at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 9-12 at the University of Oregon. The first-place finish of 8:34.18 minutes catapulted the Cardinals to a 17th-place finish in the team standings with 15 points, leading the conference's men's teams. On the women's side, four top-10 finishes for West Virginia pushed the Mountaineers to 16th place in the team standings, leading all BIG EAST squads.

The final day of the 2010 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up at rain-soaked Gettler Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati on May 2. The Notre Dame men used seven top-three finishes on the final day, including two individual event titles, to cruise to their third consecutive BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field title, while the Louisville women relied on their all-American throwing contingent to earn their third straight championship.

Two familiar names were called as 2010 BIG EAST Tennis Players of the Year, as Louisville junior Austen Childs earned his second straight annual recognition, while last season's Freshman of the Year, Notre Dame sophomore Kristy Frilling, also was honored. Frilling's teammate, Irish freshman Chrissie McGaffigan, was named women's Freshman of the Year, while Mike Lampa of St. John's earned the men's honor.
