Three BIG EAST volleyball teams will participate in the 2011 NCAA Championship as announced by the NCAA selection committee on Sunday.

The No. 2 seed Cincinnati Bearcats (25-8, 12-2 BIG EAST) defeated the No. 5 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish (17-12, 8-6 BIG EAST) 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 27-25) to win the 2011 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship title on Sunday at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee,

No. 2 seed Cincinnati (24-8, 12-2 BIG EAST) defeated No. 3 seed Marquette (23-9, 12-2 BIG EAST) 3-2 (21-25,21-25,25-22,25-17,15-13) in the second semifinal match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Saturday at the Al McGuire Center.

No. 5 seed Notre Dame (17-11, 8-6 BIG EAST) defeated No. 1 seed Louisville (22-8, 13-1 BIG EAST) 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19) in the first semifinal match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Saturday at the Al McGuire Center.

No. 3 seed Marquette (23-8, 12-2 BIG EAST) defeated No. 6 seed Seton Hall (17-13, 7-7 BIG EAST) 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) in the last quarterfinal match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Al McGuire Center.

Fifth seed Notre Dame defeated fourth seed Syracuse 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19) in the opening match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Al McGuire Center, avenging a loss to the Orange earlier in the season.

Top seed Louisville (22-7, 13-1 BIG EAST) defeated No. 8 seed Pittsburgh (18-13, 7-7 BIG EAST) 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20) in the second quarterfinals match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Al McGuire Center.

Fifth seed Notre Dame defeated fourth seed Syracuse 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19) in the opening match of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Al McGuire Center, avenging a loss to the Orange earlier in the season.

Three different schools were represented when the BIG EAST Conference presented its volleyball regular-season awards and named its all-conference selections on Thursday evening at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

The BIG EAST volleyball regular season is in the books and the top eight teams make the trip to the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis., for the 2011 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship beginning on Friday.

The eight-team 2011 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship field has been set with Louisville capturing the BIG EAST regular-season title and earning the No. 1 seed.

With Cincinnati, Villanova and Notre Dame all securing spots in the BIG EAST Championship last weekend, three slots will be filled in the final weekend of regular season play.

In today’s only BIG EAST volleyball match Pittsburgh (16-12) home crosstown rival Duquesne (17-10) at 7 p.m.

Cincinnati senior Missy Harpenau helped the Bearcats volleyball team to a 2-0 week and was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.
